ART OF LEADERSHIP

LECTURE SERIES

Dear Friends,

I look back with pride at the Art of Leadership’s notable events this past year.  From stimulating art lectures / interviews and receptions to charity art exhibitions, we have raised the bar yet again having initiated the program in 2002.

This past March, we sat down with art critic, Peter Frank at the beautiful Ukrainian Institute of America on the upper east side of Manhattan. Mr. Frank, the senior curator at the Riverside Art Museum and editor of THEmagazine Los Angeles, spoke extensively about the various New York art fairs and the “visual arts experience”. It was truly an insightful event.

To kick off the summer, we held our second lecture of 2011, A Conversation with Chiu-Ti Jansen. The event was held in June at the Ukrainian Institute of America. Ms. Jansen, founder of CHINA HAPPENINGS, enlightened guests on the lifestyle and cultural industries in contemporary China and the Chinese art market. Guests were able to speak one on one with Ms. Jansen during the reception while enjoying wine and hors d'oeuvres in the company of many other art enthusiasts.

Throughout the summer we planed our largest charity event of the year. Partnering up with the United Negro College Fund, we produced an art fair like no other- The Art of Giving Back. Held in the distinguished Visual Arts gallery in Chelsea, this large exhibition featured established and emerging African American artists. Proceeds of the art sale went to UNCF’s first visual art scholarship, to help talented young artists receive an education they deserve.

To cap off this successful year, the we held our last lecture with acclaimed author, Don Thompson. The event was held at the stunning Ana Tzarev gallery in midtown Manhattan this past November. Mr. Thomspon, author of the $12 Million Stuffed Shark and notable economist, shed light on the market impact of the various players in the complex world of art sales—from the artist, to the art dealer, to auction houses, to art fairs, to the ultimate consumer, the collector.

Currently, we are in the planning stages for the 2012 kick-off event with the interview of Nigel Freeman, head of the Swann Auction Galleries African-American Fine Art department. The event will take place on February 9th at Ana Tzarev Gallery and will address "The Rising Market for African-American Art". Mark your calender!

All in all, it has been a very impressive and busy 2011! I would like to thank you for your support in the Art of Leadership. I wish you and your family a happy and healthy holiday season. Here’s to 2012!

Sincerely,

Lawrence M. Klepner, Esq.
